The new year hasn’t even begun and we already know the places where everyone will be holidaying in 2020.
Online travel agency Trip.com has revealed the bookings that have already been made for travel by Australian holiday-makers and visitors from overseas between January 1 and December 31 next year.
And according to the data, 2020 is going to be Perth’s year.
The West Australian capital has had the most hotels pre-booked in 2020 by Australians, well ahead of domestic favourites Sydney, the Gold Coast and Melbourne.
Perth is also the number one spot for international visitors booking hotels in Australia for 2020 on Trip.com. They’re booking for Perth ahead of Adelaide in second spot and the Gold Coast in third spot.
The quokka capital of Rottnest Island, just off the shores of Perth, seems to be of particular interest to overseas visitors — the Rottnest glamping site Discovery has made an appearance in the top 10 hotels booked by tourists planning trips to Australia in 2020.
“Perth has really come of age, we have a vast area of either brand new or refurbished hotels and are very competitive on price,” Destination Perth CEO Tracey Cinavas-Prosser said in a statement.
Other popular spots for visiting tourists include the Swan Valley in Western Australia; Lorne, a town along Victoria’s Great Ocean Road; and Port Douglas in tropical far north Queensland.
The Trip.com data also reveals Perth is dispatching the most flights from Australia to southeast Asia in 2020, with Perth-Bali the most popular flight route so far, followed by Sydney-Bali.
Many of us have already booked trips to North America, where the United States appears to be more popular than Canada.
For people who have booked hotels, the Hawaiian spots of Waikiki and Honolulu are more popular than Las Vegas, Orlando, San Francisco, New York City and Los Angeles.
Sydney was the most popular point of departure for North American-bound flights, followed by Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. LA is the most popular city for us to arrive in, followed by New York City, San Francisco and Vancouver.
The most popular arrival airports for visitors flying in from overseas are Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and the Gold Coast.
Domestically, the most-booked flight routes are Melbourne-Brisbane, followed by Melbourne-Hobart and Sydney-Melbourne.
