A NSW man has been charged with drug trafficking and money laundering after police found a large amount of cannabis and cash in the truck he was driving.

The 45-year-old man was driving along the Sturt Highway in Truro, South Australia when police stopped the vehicle for an inspection about 11.45pm on Friday.

SA Police say they found an electric drill resting on the wheel arch and suspected other items were hidden in the truck.

The vehicle and trailer were towed to the Ottoway Police Compound where 39 kilograms of cannabis were located in the trailer and $228,000 cash was found in the cabin.

The NSW man was then arrested and charged with trafficking a large commercial quantity of illegal drugs and money laundering.

He was remanded in custody and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court in December.
